What’s New at the Port Hope Archives
Port Hope Archivist
Goes Full-Time
On April 1, 2008, archivist Krista Taylor went full-time at the Port
Hope Archives. Krista began her position with the Archives in October 2003 as a
part-time archivist. Over the last four and a half years, the increase in
visitors, collections and the partnership with the municipality presented the
need for more hours to dedicate to the collection.
With the full-time
position, additional hours will be offered for the public. The PHA will now be
open 10
a.m. to 12 noon Wednesday to
Friday, an addition of six hours per week. The archivist is still available at
other times by appointment.

Records Storage Area
Receives Upgrades

The PHA closed for renovations in mid-December and re-opened
to the public on February 13, 2008. The renovations and upgrades included painting, removal
of stationary shelving and new flooring in the records storage area. The new flooring and shelving was made possible with the assistance of a grant received
from the Port Hope Branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario in March
2007.
The new shelving
will allow more flexibility in the storage of the collection. The new “Smart
Shelving” has adjustable shelving, which will allow for better use of the
area.
Architectural Drawings
donated to PHA
Archivist Krista Taylor (centre) with ACO president
Richard Vincent (left), and Port Hope architect, Chris
Wallace with architectural drawings of Port Hope homes and public
buildings. The original drawings were created by students from the University of Toronto
and are located at the Archives of Ontario.
The Port Hope Branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario has
gratefully commissioned the drawings to be reproduced by the AO and for a set
to be kept at the Archives. The presentation was made Sept. 26, 2007.
